1. I don’t want to talk about what I am knowledgeable about because there are so many other people with a lot more knowledge. This statement can feel so true! I feel this way a lot, and battle it almost daily. There are so many business consultants that know a whole lot more than me and it is so easy for me to look at them and squash my own knowledge based on the assumption that I have nothing to offer. Quite often when we compare ourselves with industry experts we are forgetting they have many more years of experience AND, they all started at the beginning
2. My business will grow when I have fewer distractions. This is a really great thought, but please take a moment to tell me when you ever have easy sailing and calm seas? We will always have health distractions, family obligations, and bills to pay – the point, is your business can grow right now! In fact go ahead and take two minutes to call that prospect back…I’ll wait.
3. I will set goals when I believe I can achieve them. I’ll tell you what, you let me believe in you – until you believe in you. Now you have no excuses. Set some small goals, make a small daily list, start at the top and cross them off. Set those big goals too, see what makes you feel warm inside and write it down. If you don’t believe you can do it yet, taking action now will help that goal seem more achievable.
4. I will call and check in with my parents, Tomorrow. They may not be there tomorrow. My mother has Alzheimer’s – some days it seems like she is 100% Elizabeth – wonderful, bubbily, crazy and fun. Other days, she is not. My mother’s disease has taught me to call her when I think of her…Perhaps you are so busy you don’t think to call. Don’t feel bad, put it into your calendar and set a reminder. Call and check in during your commute – your parents won’t be here forever and one day you will miss every single thing about them…I promise.
What things do you struggle with telling yourself?
