I come from a decent sized family. My mom gave birth to four boys whose ages range wildly, I’m convinced that we were planned in sets – the first two, Don and Tom and then the last two Mike and David (me). I like to think that the decision was made that they needed to keep having kids until they finally created the perfect one…that of course was the last one. Me. 🙂
Easter in the Pride home guaranteed a few things would be on the dinner table and the first was a spiral ham, the second would be jelly for said ham, and the third would be my mother’s jello pudding concoction that I never dared try. There was just something about a green dessert food that could twerk better than Miley as it was passed around the dinner table that made me a little nervous. Now a-days Easter has taken on a whole new light as my mother is no longer able to cook and two of the four boys live out-of-state. But, thanks to social media we are all able to keep in touch and see what lurks where on each other’s plate and get the play-by-play on the various family egg hunts. Below are three ways you can make your Easter unforgettable with social media.
1.) Flipagram: It’s a given that when you’re with family you will be taking pictures. Even if your little brother tries to moon the camera, pick his nose in the family dinner shot, or photo bomb that sentimental picture with Grammy – with any luck you will have a handful of great photos and memories of the holiday events. Flipagram is a great iPhone and Android app that allows you to create short video stories from your
pictures – you can even set them to music. The app is easy use, free, and easily shares to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Check it out and if you’re lucky you can create a slide show of blackmail for when your youngest brother is beginning to date.
2.) Pinterest: We all know and love Pinterest for craft ideas and recipes so now is the time, while there still is time, to start searching for that pinned dessert, family gift, or egg decoration idea. Pinterest is fun, but it’s even better when you remember to actually create what you pinned!
3.) Simple Prints: You can now create something tangible with all those photos you took of your darling little one scowering the bushes looking for the Easter egg stuffed with m&m’s and pennies. In fact, Simple Prints allows you to print a book of your photos – direct from your phone! The book arrives in the mail, varies in price, but the quality is great. Check it out, make a book, and mail one off to those relatives who couldn’t make the trip.
Most of all the things that make holidays special have nothing to do with social media but everything to do with family. It was Robert Herrick who wrote, “Gather Ye Rosebuds while Ye may, Old Time is still a-flying, And this same flower smiling today, Tomorrow will be dying.” Enjoy your time with family, enjoy your dinner, and gather ye Easter Eggs.
